Our Staff

Jyl DeJong - CVPM:

Jyl started her tenure with the Altoona/Hubbell family in 2004. In addition to all of her responsibilities at work, Jyl is the busy mother of 5 kids with husband Chad; Luka, Kolton, Brody, Gavin, and Adeline along with Jake the dog. She spends her “free time” keeping up with the kids’ activities and volunteering in her community whenever possible. Their family enjoys staying active playing sports and going boating during the summer. The best part of her job is “the great co-workers and getting to know all our clients over the years.”

Chris Calvert - Receptionist:

Chris has been the friendly face greeting clients and patients at Hubbell Animal Hospital since 2005. She and her husband Harold share their home with Layla the boxer and spread the rest of their attention on their 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Chris loves getting to interact with the clients and the variety that every day brings. In addition, she enjoys getting to “work with a team that truly cares about every pet and gives the best care possible to each one equally.” When not tending to her responsibilities at work, Chris enjoys tending to her plants and flowers, grandchildren’s sporting events, and carving out time for travelling during the fall.

Keri Jensen, RVT:

Keri has had a long career as a RVT since graduating from Northeast Missouri State University, which ultimately brought her to the Hubbell staff in 2005. She is kept company at home by Derbis the dog, Junior the cat, and her husband Mike. Keri enjoys the technical parts of her job such as performing labwork and taking radiographs. When away from the office she allows time for watching NASCAR, camping at the Iowa State Fair with family, and spending time with her grandson, nieces, and nephews.

Robi Muniz, RVT:

Robi joined the Hubbell staff in 2015. Her energy and enthusiasm for what we do is hard to miss. She and her husband have 2 children along with 2 cats, Buddy and Alley, a dog, Shakira, and a gecko named Leo. Robi counts having the opportunities to help comfort clients and patients when needed and celebrate the joys of the human-animal bond with all our clients and her co-workers as some of the best parts of her job.

Velista Martin, RVT

Velista is a graduate of the Vet Tech Institute of Houston and joined the staff in 2016. In doing her work, she enjoys the challenge of helping manage critical cases and anesthesia along with the chance to help deliver positive client/experiences. Away from work, she enjoys hiking in the mountains of Colorado and spending time with her family, labmix Chance, and her boyfriend (Chris).

Heather Miller, Technician Assistant:

Heather started her career with Hubbell Animal Hospital in 2010 and has proven to be an invaluable part of the animal caretaking and veterinary assistant staff. Her family includes 2 dogs, Coco and Poppy, 2 guinea pigs, Clara and Daisy, husband (Alan), son (Colin), and daughter (Izzy). The best part of coming to work for Heather is “without a doubt the people I work with and getting to know the clients and their fur babies.” Outside of work the family loves to travel and has set their sights on visiting all 50 states.

Tina Mingus, Morning Animal Caretaker:

Tina joined our staff in 2018 and is responsible for helping care for our boarding and hospital patients in the mornings during the week. She lives in Colfax with her 2 dogs, Chloe and Ruby, and Twiggy the cat.

Dakota, Animal Caretaker:

Dakota is pursuing a degree in animal technology and has worked with us as an animal caretaker since 2017. He claims to be boring, but we do know that he is very good with the patients and has a positive mental attitude. He likes the “positive team” environment while he is at work and running and biking when he is not.

Tammy, Animal Caretaker:

Tammy started in 2007 and has been a steadfast part of the animal caretaking staff ever since. She and her son Levi have 2 dogs, Molly and Alffie. Tammy revels in the opportunity to care for the animals both at work and at home. When time allows, she likes to get out for walks and a little fishing with Levi and the dogs.

Randa Patrick, Animal Caretaker:

Randa completed her animal science degree at Iowa State in 2018, but has been a member of the Hubbell team since 2013. She is passionate about the world of animal medicine and plans to ultimately pursue her DVM degree. She has an Aussie Heeler mix named Arlo and finds ways to keep busy outside of the animal world as a waitress/bartender, Scentsy consultant, and coffee connoisseur.
